Situated in the middle of the Iberian peninsula, Madrid has been the capital of Spain since the 16th century and it is here you can discover the famous “Puerta del Sol” square where the year is counted out on New Years Eve.

Madrid offers a fantastic range of museums and cultural events. There is, for example, the “Paseo del Arte” made by the close triangular arrangement of three world famous museums: the Prado, the Thyssen – Bornemisza, and the Reina Sofía, located together in one of the most beautiful parts of the city. Similarly, you can witness three historically distinctive parts of Madrid: Medieval Madrid, the Madrid of the Austrias, and the Madrid of the Bourbons.
Madrid is a young, open, lively and bustling city. With countless taverns, bars, brasseries, cafes and restaurants the habit of “talking shop” and tapas is still very much alive. It is a unique destination that offers culture, history, art and entertainment like no other. Furthermore, from Madrid you can travel with ease to all areas of Spain as it has the best transport connections by land and air. Equally, it is very accessible as an international destination.

The most popular festival is that of Saint Isidro (15th May) with festivals and world famous bull-fighting. The Pilgrimage of Saint Antonio (13th June) and the “Festival de la Paloma” (15th August) are also very popular. Local cuisine comprises “Cocido” (Madrid stew), Madrid tripe, fish, and stews. For dessert “rosquillas” (similar to bagels), “torrijas” (similar to French toast) and “los huesos de santos” (marzipan pastries) are all firm favourites.
